Dr Udhav Maharaj

Dr Udhav Maharaj is a co-host of the SAIAE Podcast and a consulting Agricultural Engineer whose work spans engineering hydrology, water resources management, climate resilience, and sustainable development across Africa. A proud University of KwaZulu-Natal alumnus, he completed his BSc, MSc (Cum Laude), and PhD in Agricultural Engineering. His research advanced event-based design flood estimation and predictive uncertainty in hydrological models through the National Flood Studies Program. As a Senior Engineer and project leader at GroundTruth, he leads multidisciplinary projects in agricultural water management, flood risk, catchment hydrology, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability. He is passionate about integrating digital technologies, drone-based monitoring, and Nature-based Solutions to strengthen water security, community resilience, and evidence-based decision-making while supervising postgraduate students and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
